My installation of XOOPS seemed to go well today and I didn't receive any errors. I created a database and when it tested the connection to the database, it said it was successful.

Now when I try to go to /admin.php, it just says "You don't have the right to access this area."

Is there another way in? Am I missing something here? I checked the user.php and userinfo.php on the XOOPS root and they look fine.

Thanks,
Prestor

Did you login using the same username and password that you created when you were installing?

That's the thing, it never even prompts me to login. It takes me straight to the page saying "You don't have the right to access this area" and then spits me out back at my homepage.

Thanks for your help,

well? The URL/admin.php is SUPPOSED to throw you back to the front so you can login and THEN go to the admin area.

No, it sends me back to my homepage, index.php. I do not have an option to login there. I don't want everybody visiting my website to see the administrator login field.

So where exactly am I supposed to login? I thought it was at admin.php?

Thanks again.

OK... so what would be the cause of having a homepage that is blank?

Thanks,

Re: "You don't have the right to access this area"

When I first upgraded from 2.03 to 2.05, I did a complete install instead of the patch. Plus I overwrote my mainfile.php. So when I did the install I had to put my database name, database username and password in again. I made a mistake and put in the wrong password. So when I finished installing the new version, I ended up with a blank home page.

It took me a little while to figure out that the reason was the wrong password for my database. So XOOPS couldn't connect to the database using the wrong password. As soon as I edited my mainfile.php with the correct password, my front page showed up.

Now your problem could be something little like this. XOOPS may not be able to access the database because you didn't put in the right username and/or password that you used to create the database in mysql.

Well, I checked the database u/n and password and everything is right. I even went into my db manager and saw that the XOOPS tables had been created just fine.

I went through some of the FAQ's and found that recompiling Perl might fix this, but I talked to my hosting company and I don't have the ability to do that or even edit the php.ini. I guess I won't be able to use XOOPS - is there an easy way to remove it from my server?

Thanks,
Preston

Deleting the files is the way.
