Writing a module and going in steps from just plain old php pages encapsulated in XOOPS headers and footers to using core functions such as XoopsForm to using Object Oriented programming to using SMARTY templates... it does give you some insight in XOOPS - but I learn new things every day
Just keep it up and keep asking questions (although it is appreciated to try at least some things like turning on debugging and responding to the error messages - it's a bitch reading questions, which could be resolved by a look in the error message and a small edit. It's equally annoying to read a question, make some thoughts and tests just to find a "SOLVED" post 2 hours later by the same person
