Try to use your domain in the FROM field instead of gmail.com and see if it works.
It's good to set the default as "email@example.com" This way people know where it came from, but they will not reply and send you spam
I think, I recall somewhere that this was the recommend way, so the domain and your email match.
If the change of email address doesn't help, you might also check with your Host, to make sure that the email is working properly from the server perspective. Sometime it is the server fault, and not XOOPS...
