I tested it again under PHP 5.3 and PHP 5.4 and couldn't replicate it.

Does anybody have a similar issue?

I will shortly get the opportunity to try this.

But first, I need a disambiguation or the phrase

Quote:

1. Get the right update package from the sourceforge file repository

under the "Upgrading from 2.5.5 to 2.5.6 Final:" category

in the 2.5.6 install document

I see numerous version to version upgrade categories, each with one index.php file in it in an above root /upgrade/ directory in the 2.5.6 final archive. No docs on how these get used.

The ambiguous statement quoted leads one to believe that

1. the clean install archive should not be used; and that

2. there exists a special 2.5.5 - 2.5.6 upgrade archive that should be downloaded and used instead.

Please clarify the procedure here as nothing in the forums or doc search.

I should just be able to use the generic 2.5.6 archive and delete the un-needed files (i.e. install folder etc, unused themes), upload and overwrite 2.5.5 files original and execute system and other module updates, right?

Then I can report whther I get the same issue that opened this thread.

@ jameswilliam

I discovered some issues with couple of the upgrade files, and have fixed them for XOOPS 2.5.7. If you want to test them, you can checkout the /upgrade folder from the XOOPS SVN

@ xoobaru
I guess, we'll have to be more specific in the future, to avoid confusion.

The overall "Upgrade" is a two-step process.

1) First you "update" your current files with the files from the new version of XOOPS. You can do it by either:

a) copying all the files except /install folder and the "mainfile.php" file (full update)

b) if exists, you can take the "update package" (e.g. xoops2.5.5-to-2.5.6a.zip) and then copy all the files from there to the XOOPS 2.5.5

2) Then you need to copy the /upgrade folder to your root, and run the "upgrade", by going to:http://yoursite.com/upgrade and following the directions there, incl. in the end updating the System module.

After this is done, you should delete the /upgrade folder.

Let me know if this makes more sense. Feel free to make suggestions how to make this explanation simpler and easier to understand.

Safe to do with site turned off for maintenance? I don't want users logged in attempting to log in during upgrade process (production site). I don't want any unnecessary surprises, such as unrecoverable admin lockout.

Yes.

Based on the French reports, please check after the upgrade if these three fields have been added to _xoopscomments (see this thread here)

You're not the only one.

I've been holding my breath since they announced it

huum
Mamba, why you didnt download the french 2.5.5 and 2.5.6 and tried to replicate it yourself. This way you did not need to wait for tatane and others and you could save your time !

In fact, this is not a problem of translation files in French. Tatane has just done the translation of the "upgrade" folder. Francophones have updated their Xoops with the "upgrade" folder in English so far.
Please irmtfan, read your emails, I have sent you one!

I wanted them to test in their original environment where the problem is happening. If we have different environments, it could work on mine, and wouldn't work on their. Plus I don't know if they made any hacks or changes to their versions.
