I am stuck on Step 6 of 14 - Database Configuration.

I get an error message:
Could not create database. Contact the server administrator for details.

Here is my environment:
Server API cgi-fcgi Apache
PHP 5.2.17
MySQL 5.0.45

Any help I can get is greatly appreciated!
Many thanks!!

-Maya

Try to create the database manually, and then enter the name of the database during the installation. As long as your passwords are OK, then XOOPS will take it, and create the tables.

Thank you for the reply!

Sorry, I'm still learning the process.
I use GoDaddy for my account (server/web-host/database).

I have successfully installed xoops few years back with similar instructions, I don't know why this time is different... or what I am doing wrong...?

As for entering the name of the database during installation on Step 5, that went through fine, so where I'm stuck at on Step 6 to enter the Database name and char set... I'm not sure if there is a specific preference in terms of char, whatnot to pass successfully pass this step...?

P.S. I have never created the database manually before, can you point me to a website where I can learn this step-by-step?

Many thanks!
-Maya

Database creation will be totally dependent on your hosting company. If you have a control panel type interface there should be something there. If you have something called "phpmyadmin" that would be the place you want to start.

It should be very simple from that point forward.

I have noticed however if on my home server if I don't use root and the root password xoops install stalls out at the same step with the same issue. I have tried to use other user names and passwords but they didn't work. Once installed with root I go back and change them to whatever it was I wanted in the first place.

You can always use Google and search using the name of your provider and database. Most of them have support pages for that.

My search for: "GoDaddy create database mysql" got me this page from GoDaddy

See if it works for you, and if not, come back and we'll try to help.
