I'm thinking about an "inbetween solution" atm. It would be great if you guy could tell me what you want to do if you were in my position.

What if I leave the old version online as it is. Therefore all the backlinks to our articles find the target. Furthermore I deactivate the that the old version is being index by google.
Parallel to this I put the new installation into the public html folder and make it the productive installation. I also activate google index on this installation.

In the end all the new reviews, news, ... go online in the new installation and the old installation only serves the backlinks.

Do you guys think that would be a good/feasable solution?

Avoid maintaining two different installations.

In the long run it will be easier for you to:

- import DB into a new test installation of XOOPS 2.5.5
- update all modules, incl. import of SmartSection data into Publisher
- remove SmartSection and clone Publisher into SmartSection (this will keep the old links working).
- make a backup of the old installation, and replace it with the new one

With that, you would be done, and have it as it is right now.

However, if you want to change your Site from:

http://www.ocaholic.ch/xoops/html/

to

http://www.ocaholic.ch/

you should then move your files to appropriate directory, or change the setup on your server.

And in order to keep all the saved old links working, you should then use Apache Mod_Rewrite, so your visitors get redirected correctly.

To do the import from SmartSection to Publisher, would you use the import function in Publisher or would you manually import the DB?

Publisher's import function. That's what it is for there
