This is probably already reported.

Most of the smilies that comes with Xoops 2.5 have white borders around them. So they don't look very good on sites with dark backgrounds. Should be fixed IMO.

Could anybody help us with that?

I dont' think i would be fair to ask Trabis or other people from the Core team to drop XOOPS 2.6.0 development in order to fix the smiley icons.

So if any of the graphic experts out there, or somebody who would like to learn how to do it, could help, we would very much appreciate it!!!!

Took a quick look myself. I thought this would be a easy job for the color replace tool in Paint Shop Pro.

Removing the borders makes the corners look pixelated. May be easier to look for another set of smilies.

Did they change the old smiles from PNG to JPEG files or something?

I haven't looked but if they were PNG files or GIF they were probably transparent and if they are JPEG files someone likely converted them causing the extra boarder.

Should be a simple fix if you look at older smilies. Otherwise it might be easier to find new smilies.

They are GIF files and transparent. But still have borders. I think these smilies was made for white backgrounds.

I checked on my PC, and I don't have these problems:

What XOOPS version and browser do you use, and what theme?

These a transparent GIF files, so there should be no problem with them.

Maybe your browser doesn't render correctly the "transparent" feature of GIF?

They are transparent but the corners are not. It's hard to judge from your screenshot Mamba since they are on a light background and saved as jpg.

I have re-downloaded latest Xoops and have tested them outside Xoops to be sure.

Check for yourself by using this simple html and open it in your browser:

<html>
<
body bgcolor="#000000">
<
img src="http://127.0.0.1/xoops/uploads/smilies/smil3dbd4d4e4c4f2.gif"
</
body>
</
html>

Of course change the link to the image.

I can confirm that the Smilies don't look good on a black color.

I guess, we'll have to look for a new set of smilies for XOOPS 2.6.0. Anybody has a recommendation for free transparent set of smilies? Or could make a set for us?

In the meantime, you can use this set:

http://www.localbikers.org.uk/phpbb/dark_style_phpbb3_smilies/

Either rename the individual icons as needed, or you can use Avaman to add the new icons, and delete the old ones.

You should create smiles with transparency, example .png extension

Look in facebook chat to see this in .png

They all were with transparency, but some of them had extra gray colors around them, which was perfectly fine on our standard backgrounds, but didn't work on a black background.

I've updated the files in SVN with better transparency, but you can also download the attached file and replace the smilies in the folder:

/uploads/smilies

and they should work on all backgrounds.
