I was able to use webmaster and admin.You must know that I am very grateful.It is a somewhat frivolous site but it is important to me.Thank you very much.I will make a donation to the site to help support the wonderful work of the open source community.If it wouldn't be too much trouble could you give a brief synopsis of the problem so I and others can gain some knowledge.Once again I appreciate the time you have given me.I wish you all the best weather in Nova Scotia too.

no problem...
After checking which database is used via your mainfile.php:
- edited xoops_config table in database, set conf_value = XOOPS where conf_name = auth_method.
- edited xoops_user table and set pass = newpass where user = admin.
- cleared all xoops_data cache directories.

Back in action, authentication was changed from ldap to XOOPS database.
