That is not possible under the current block settings.
Each time you select a plugin the block is restarted to fetch correct categories. If I allowed multiple plugins then I needed to have multiple categories select boxes. Options in blocks are limited to the ones you set in xoops_version so, I don´t see a good way to do that.
However, maybe I could make possible to create custom plugins that are not module related. This way you could build a plugin to fetch results from more than one module.
Well it´s not easy. Good thing is that, you can use how many spotlight blocks you want. And you can use the spotlight block inside a Mytabs page.
There are other good things I added like, you can fetch category or user via url. So for example, if you use a spotlight in a profile page you can get items from that user only. Very cool!
