I have read the beginners tutorial but I am lost. I just uploaded it onto my server with Godaddy. I went to my website and get the menu. Why does it go to the menu and not a template?
Sorry but I am a noob.

Hi,

and welcome to xoops.
I'm not shure I understand your question, but did you installed xoops? It is not enough to upload files to your server, you have to install it. So if you see the menu for selecting language, entering database settings and so on - this is part of install.

If that is not your case - keep asking and give some more information, screenshot and link.

This is what I get when I go to my site.http://themilitarylender.com/

How do I get a template up? Why does it go to the admin instead of a default template?

Hi,

this is the default theme. Did you uploaded another one? If yes, you need to tell XOOPS to use it. Go to admin -> system -> preferences -> General settings and for "Default theme" select the one you want to use. Scroll down and click "Go!" to save changes.

Or you can have several themes and let user chose one. To do this in the same place (General settings) for the "Selectable themes" select all themes that you want and save change. Then go to blocks and activate "Themes" block. You will need to give anonymous group access right to this block if you want to let them see it. Otherwise it will be available only for registered users.

Another thing - in XOOPS template and theme are diferent things. What is a template as in Template Monster here is called theme

Also, although getting old, are my tutorials found here:

http://www.warpigw2.com/modules/smartsection/

Need to start updating them soon, but the basics are the same.

I saved a template I want to use from themebase but it is a zip file and XOOPS says it has to be a tar.gz file. So I loaded it to my ftp server manually. It is not showing up in my admin/templates. It still just shows the default template. How do I upload a zip file when it will not allow me through the admin. I am using Godaddy for my hosting btw.
Thanks.

Hi slake71,

You seem to have themes and templates confused. This is common to new XOOPS users. See these in the faq:

https://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=179

No it was a template I downloaded. Just need to know how to get it up because it is a zip not a tar.gz file. I manually put it on the FTP but doesn't show up as an option in the admin/templates section. Just the default template shows up. I can't upload it through the admin because it says it has to be a tar.gz file.

There are two ways:

1) Unzip it and upload it as directory with files in their original format (e.g. php or css or html)

2) Unzip it locally, and then tar.gz it using 7zip and upload it as tar.gz
