I have just done a default install of XOOPS 2.3.0 and the installation went well. However although the left navigation menu is there when I'm logged in as administrator and it's there when as an anonymous user, it disappears when logged in as a registered user, making navigation impossible. This is using the default theme and template as supplied and installed.
Any information as to what is causing this, and a fix, would be appreciated.
Many Thanks

Further to above, after more testing.
After registering the member goes into the non-members of the Registered Users Group. Then if I manually add them to members, the website works fine. Is there a way then that people registering are automatically put into Members/Registered Users Group to eliminate this extra manual step ?
Thanks

Forgot to mention the above installation is on a linux server. As another test I installed XOOPS on a Windows server and the above error didn't happen. But the mail didn't work, but that's another issue. It's happened on three default installations now on a linux.
Any suggestions ?

I have done another installation on another server on a borrowed domain name which works and these are the system settings shown:

XOOPS Version - XOOPS 2.3.0
PHP Version - 5.2.6
MySQL Version - 5.0.32-Debian_7etch6-log
Server API Version - apache2handler
OS Version - Linux

safe_mode - Off
register_globals - Off
magic_quotes_gpc - On
allow_url_fopen - On
fsockopen - On
allow_call_time_pass_reference - On
post_max_size - 8M
max_input_time - 60
output_buffering -
max_execution_time - 30
memory_limit - 20M
file_uploads - On
upload_max_filesize - 10M

These are the system setting shown for the installation that does not work:

XOOPS Version - XOOPS 2.3.0
PHP Version - 5.2.6
MySQL Version - 5.0.51b-community-nt-log
Server API Version - apache2handler
OS Version - Linux

safe_mode - On
register_globals - Off
magic_quotes_gpc - Off
allow_url_fopen - On
fsockopen - On
allow_call_time_pass_reference - Off
post_max_size - 8M
max_input_time - 500
output_buffering -
max_execution_time - 800
memory_limit - 256M
file_uploads - On
upload_max_filesize - 20M

Both these are standard default installs. Anyone see from this why one works and the other doesn't.

Thanks

Check the group configuration (modules/system/admin.php?fct=groups), see if registered users have access to the module which is shown on the left column. It is most likely that somehow you granted the privilege to guest while not registered user.

Otherwise, it's strange... Are the theme.html exactly the same? Among the different configuration you compared, only "magic_quotes_gpc" might have marginal effect on the program (while it shouldn't disable the left column). You may try to turn it on in the php.ini and see if there's any difference.

Thanks for the reply
The line I think you're referring to in the admin.php reads

echo "" .trim($modversion['name'])."\n";

But this line is the same in the installation that works and the one that doesn't.
I checked registered users and they have access to everything, but I didn't get that far anyway. Theme etc the same, just left it at default. Played with the banner on the one that doesn't work afterwards while waiting for an answer.
As it seems knowone has ever had this problem I can only guess that it's something very specific to the server it's on. I'll have to move eveything to another server or find a CMS that works.

Thanks
