2.2.6 to 2.3.1rc notifications

Notifications are acting up after an upgrade to 2.3.1rc. When you click a link to notifications.php I get the following MySQL error (and I do not know what it is for:

le="color: #000000"><?php SELECT title FROM prefix__categories WHERE cid = 12 limit 1 Error number: 1146 Error message: Table 'databasename.prefix__categories' doesn't exist


this results in just a redirect to the mainpage.

Weird!

Doesn't happen after upgrade from 2.0.18.2 - 2.30, but that doesn't help in this case.

Is it okay after 2.2.6 - 2.3.0 Final?
