How urgent is this?

We should either recommend them 2.0.18.1 or wait and offer them 2.3, once it's officially released.

Agree. I think it's better they use 2.0.18.1 than 2.3

But modules?

See this discussion

At this moment, we could look into something like the XOOPS Facil

The list of modules should be very basic and very bullet-proof, i.e. better less, but secure and tested over time, so the "first experience" with XOOPS is very good.

OK.
Something can be written in ..\htdocs\install\language\xxx\install.php

Here can be some mere information for new users. Maybe just a link to the local supportsite and a page with beginneres first step

What is XOOPS Facil actually? Is there an example where this is in use. The link leads to a full install package, but i don't want to install and test right now... (lack of time i'm afraid)

For the start module i was thinking of something like what is used on oscommerce (original), or we make a module meant for new users translated to all the languages spoken here. It could start with english when installed (if that is simpler) then users could choose language by clicking on their flag, which would lead to the same text in that language.

It should contain explenation how to find, install and uninstall modules, where to find local support (link and possible a welcome note from the local webmaster, how to change theme and where to find themes, how to set permissions, etc. Basically the stuff new webmasters wonder about after install... If there are any interest for this module i can go ahead and make the first draft (hopefully i can get Mowaffak involved too), then we would need all your help to get the module translated... What do you think?

You didn't have to install "XOOPS Facil" - it was just an example of module collection. They have:

- backpack
- extcal
- contact
- blocksadmin
- mydownloads
- mylinks
- newbbex
- rw_banner
- smartsection
- xcgal
- xhld0
- xt_temas
- xoopspool

I'm not saying that this is the "ultimate" list of modules that should be included in a "XOOPS Basic", but it's a good start. I hope, that in the thread about packages we'll come to some kind of a conclusion on what it should be.

Yes, this would be very useful!

I really like the idea of a Welcome-module in core.
The module has to show a Welcome-message for first-timers

What is the content of this module ? Is it ust a welcome message ?

I think we can do it as message appear for first time then disappear forever, I can make it by ajax too inside defualt theme ( which be first theme will show in the first time ), so no need to make module.

What do you think ?

My idea was a welcomemesseage/module, where new users get introduced to XOOPS.
The message should be one for webmaster and another one for others.

Welcome to "sitename".
This site is just buildt up, so there are not mutch content so far
etc etc

if webmaster

Welcome "username".
This message is the first content at you site "sitename"
You can edit thes messages i systemadministratin -> blocks -> ect

Depending on your needs, XOOPS serves a lot of modules for content.
Default there is no modules included in XOOPS.
Modules can be found at https://xoops.org/modules/repository/

You can also contact you local supportsite for help
https://xoops.org/modules/xoopspartners/
etc

The messages should be easy to change so the fit the local supportsites.
For example, I would make links to http://www.xoops.dk about module installation
Block handling, permissions, mailsettings etc.

These messages shoul only be viewed for danish uses.

It is good idea but we can do it as part of default theme not as new module, and welcome message will be text in any lang file which can translate by local support webmasters.

I think this will add confusion... If it dissapear then new user will start looking for it...

I'm more in line with Anders about this... I think we should make a module visible to webmasters only, explaining next steps in a preferred language... remember this is for brand new xoopsers, and by having this 'help/guide/welcome module it would teach them the basics of xoops. I love making designs so i could start on that, but Mowaffak, you are a much better module developer than me so i'm hoping you will do the stuff you'we done to the web tools module for this...

@Mowaffak... I came over this little script, maybe you want to add it to web tools for next version...
