why?

As part of the new Private Messages System V2, I am adding the ability to add add friends per request and the ability to block users, as in all user who are not on my friends list or per unwanted user.

Now this is pretty simple till you get down to ethics. Would you as the offending user like to know that you're block from a certain user, or would you as the blocking user prefer not to let the offending person know that you are blocking them?

Answers please...

Interesting idea. Why not let the user to decide - have a check box or something.

How about option for admin to disable entire blocking thing (no blocking for the site), or better give some groups option to block and others not ...

..

Facebook doesn't show you who blocked you from messages or even from being a friend, because of privacy issues - they don't want to cause any bad blood or retaliation.

I would follow the policies of the more established "social networks" as they probably explored it from the legal perspective.
