Hummm...
since you're using Xigg author hard work for free
don't you think he deserve at least some credit link
somewhere !?

I like people more than machines or money. But that's me!
Lets do something good and great: Lets do open source!

I agree with Damster; what is wrong with acknowledging someone's a hard work?

Just my personal view, but I think that removing a small credit is against the spirit of Open Source.

Just download InfoRapid then Search & Replace the text if it is text. If its not Just search for the graphic name.

Sometimes devs get a little carried away with the credits.

To be cool with the open source aspect... Give credit where credit is due... just install the "My Credits" module...

Solo & Dugris...

It's a little old... But should still get the job done...

Or..you could remove the credits from the module and make a iframe-block module where you put the credits, as the My Credits module kind of grab everything... also the ones you don't want to display.

Ie. if you have buildt a start page module and a page regitered users log into.. you can see what i mean on my site. Just go to credits in the sitemap.

Ignore them, there are tons of reasons to remove the front copyrights, here's a few:

Assists in preventing hackers from finding you via google or other search engines, as they search for such terms, XOOPS get's hackers too, don't they Damaster.

Doesn't look professional having credits pasted all over a professional website.

Doesn't look good to your client or your clients customers.

Allows your competition to compete with you easier (IE they know what your doing and how your doing it, without having to do any work themselves).

You can be ranked down in some search engines (see the whole WordPress sponsored footers thing recently).

Links could lead to offensive material when the domain name is not renewed by the developer.

Sites and software like McAfee, have a rating system, and if it leads to a red site, it could also put a mark against yours, leading to a loss of users and possibly customers.
Kind Regards.

I did a quick scan and see it in two files:

<div class="xiggLink">Powered by <a href="http://xigg.org/" alt="Xigg.org">Xigg</a></div>

modules/Xigg/layouts/default/index.html

The other file is in your admin I believe so that shouldn't matter so much.

There maybe other instances. If you are to remove the notices, then it would perhaps be polite to make some kind of donation to the developer.
Kind Regards.

I just discovered Xigg and I'm certainly gonna try it. I do however agree with Tom in this case.

I spent several weeks looking at Pligg - a standalone social bookmarking application. Pligg is great, but their users seem to be plagued with comment spam and robot registrations. In some cases Pligg powered sites were live for just a few days before they got hit. The devs have implemented Captchas, Akismet and Bad Behaviour but none of these have completely solved their problems.

Unless a module is proven hack-proof, I always keep developer credits in the admin screens, but not on the public side.
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.
