News module Hack - Headline picture / thumbnail

I am thinking of writing a hack for the News module so you can upload a picture for each news item. The picture will be used on the main news item page and and thumbnail version of it can be displayed per headline. Admin will be able to select how pictures should be displayed e.g. top right, center, top right.

So has anyone done anything like this already before spend time on this - I suspect a lot of people would find it useful.

And it looks like you have similar functionality already. Did you hack it yourself?

what i see at http://www.remixland.de ?? that is Treason for News's modulde users
i searching for long time for that hack and i didn't find it, there are modfied verision of module verison 1.5 have that hack but it dosn't work with me,
shiva, I have tried to make that hack But I failed becouse the php code of module are very hard and I do not have much experience at php
i waiting for to see your hack , please tell us when you finished it

its not hacked, standard news module


im adding the images manually
it would be perfect if u can write a hack for adding and resizing images automaticly, that would make much easier adding news

i test your hack
but it seem there are a proplem of that
1 - when i try to edit the posts there are a big error, i have a page with only "Edit Article"
that's the error i have, in debug mod i have that error in storyform.inc.php you have edit it that is Quote:

Notice: Undefined variable: storyid in file /modules/news/include/storyform.inc.php line 110
Notice: Undefined variable: storyimage in file /modules/news/include/storyform.inc.php line 115
Notice: Undefined variable: storyimage in file /modules/news/include/storyform.inc.php line 122

i have 3 idea to your hack
1 - add new filed named "Photo Name" it will add with image as it name , this name will be shown at image select menu instead the image url name .
2 - module's blocks shown thumbnail verison

Following idea out of you thoughts, but it would be useful for all module's users

3 - try to add new filed named "Writen by ..." not "posted by" and that filed will be text box and one eles named "source from".

oh i forget something try to make a readme verision have how to install you hack with some stip by adding your code and your modfied by handing , becouse if there conflict with anthor hack.

I cannot edit any pages errorFatal error: Call to undefined function: getfieldbyid() in .../modules/news/include/storyform.inc.php on line 111

Also I cannot see any images or thumbnails that should come up with the article.

Hope this module works please can you see how to fix this error?

Once someone can confirm it works on their XOOPS I will incorporate new functionality.
