Homepage doesn't open but other pages do?

Every so often my homepage will not open, maybe for an hour or so - big problem!!!.

But other pages, like forum posts and articles will open, no problem

Is there anything I can do about this? The homepage is made almost entirely of blocks which either cannot have a cache or only a 30 second one (because they are always being updated) - not sure if this is related.

Thanks a lot for any sugestions!

Sounds like one of blocks the on the homepage might not be behaving itself; perhaps one whose content changes dynamically?

Have you added any blocks to your homepage recently?

Hi John

No blocks added recently all this problem has gone on for a while now.

Sometimes I just get page could not open but sometimes I get "db connection failed"

I've seen this happen on XOOPS a few times,I guessed it was down to volume of traffic but that is unlikely to be the problem with my site

PS: I don't have gzip compression enabled because it messes up my site when i turn it on - could this be causing the problem?
