xcgallery 2.0.3 - "intermediate images" set-up

Hi,

I'm trialing xcGallery 2.0.3 (the latest version I could find. Works well and I like it a lot apart from one thing:

I can't seems to set-up the "intermediate image" function properly in preferences. I would like to use the following settings:

Intermediate images size 800px
Max upload size 1024px
Max filesize 200kb

With these settings if I upload a 1024 x 768px image I get a blank screen. I can upload images smaller that 800px alright and everything is okay.

The only way that I can upload 1024px images is with the following settings:

Intermediate images size 1024px
Max upload size 1024px
Max filesize 200kb

What I want is for the module to work as it does on Stuie200's site:
http://www.slcwebdev.co.uk/tractiontime/modules/xcgal/

Here, the intermediate image is displayed on the main website and the larger image appears in a new window after clicking on the intermediate picture.

Please can someone help me?

TIA

My settings are:

Pictures and thumbnails settings: Max width or height of an intermediate picture 400

Pictures and thumbnails settings: Max size for uploaded pictures (KB)512

Pictures and thumbnails settings: Max width or height for uploaded pictures (pixels) 1024

And they are working just fine - what image resizing method are you using (gd, gd2, imagemagick, netpbm)?

Hi Steve,

Not a lot of difference in our settings.

I'm using GD2, which is what the module was set to when I installed it. When I installed CBB3.08 this module advised that GD2 was installed and the other three options were not, so that's not the issue.

I'm thinking that it's a server/permissions issue linked open_basedir settings.

My hosting company's support guys have told me to set a 'sessions.save_path' (in addition to the long-standing 'Upload_tmp_dir' setting) in my php settings. I've done this and am waiting for an "apache restart" before trying again.

I'll post back here when I know if this has worked. Or not.

Cheers

Right.......

The 1024px images are being uploaded and moved to the correct albums/userpics/1000x directory.

However, as Skenow intimated, it is a resizing issue. If I set the "max upload size" to be the same as the "intermediate picture size" then all is well. If I set both to be 1024px then a 1024px piccy uploads into the right directory, the album updates and a thumbnail is created.

If is set both sizes to 800px and try to upload a 1024px piccy then the redirect page tells be than the piccy is too big. Perfect.

As I understand it, GD2.0.x should be installed with php4.4.x as standard? If asked my host's tech support to confirm this.

Does GS2 create the thumbnail? If so then GD2 is available and working.

Have I got a corrupt file somewhere?

Any other ideas?

According to a php-info script I've run, my host's server reports the following:

PHP version 4.4.7

gd
GD Support enabled
GD Version bundled (2.0.28 compatible)
FreeType Support enabled
FreeType Linkage with freetype
GIF Read Support enabled
GIF Create Support enabled
JPG Support enabled
PNG Support enabled
WBMP Support enabled
XBM Support enabled

I've checked the thumbnails and they are being created as .jpg files.......

I'm getting a bit frustrated here

Anyone got any pearls (perls? ) of wisdom? Bad/corrupt module file?

Sorted!!

Upgraded from PHP4 to PHP5 and that did it!

It was a resizing issue and most likely a problem with the version of GD2 that came with PHP 4.4.7

I'm now on PHP 5.2.3 and it works perfectly. And, thankfully, so does the rest of the site inc the xyp4all 1.58 module that I was worried about

I'm going to try eXtGallery again (I had "large image" upload issues with that too) to see if that's easier for none net-savvy users to get on with.

Thanks for the support.

Odd bit of behavior there - I have sites running with PHP4.4.1 that work fine with xcGallery.

I think it was "bad" GD2 coding.

Still, it made my take the plunge and upgrade to PHP5, which is no bad thing
