suddenly I can't access the admin page

After some time of not looking at the admin section I need to do something but

I get this error message

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /*****/admin.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

the rest of the site works fine, login is good just access to admin

this is in effect a bump as I am stuck, having looked at other posts and deleted the admin cache, I still can no longer get to the admin.php.
