I'm so history now if I can not get this solved!
I'm setting up a portal:
http://elephantcoasttourism.com/web/ and all was going smooth until, while uploading images I got this errorpage :

Because we've got about 200 members in this website and all of them have several images that need to be displayed

Could the number of categories be a possible problem?

I've debug on, but when the error page gets rendered, there are no errors shown.

php 5.04 is extremely buggy and insecure and is superseded by many other versions.. php.net issued a statement months ago with regards to outdated php 5 versions causing many issues with users..

i'm not exactly sure this is the cause in your situation, but it may very well be.

yeah, you would do well to roll back to 4.4.7, or go all the way up to 5.2.3
