I have just noticed some core.??? files under my XOOPS root directory. Some of the file names are: core.8989, core.765, core.7806 etc. Each of them has the same file size of 36.14 MB. These files have been created recently, i.e. today and yesterday. There are strange characters in those files, its not a text file.

I havn't installed\modified any of the modules\blocks\themes recently.

I am using XOOPS 2.0.16.

Any ideas what kinda files are these?

they are core dump files produced automatically by the server when apache crashes. this could be due to some fault with a PHP install or apache module that is faulty and so causes apache to crash.

your host should be able to get to the bottom of it.

they are however safe to delete.
