I have cloned the template
and followed the directions to add an outside url to the main menu
I have edited the
system_block_mainmenu.html
but the link still won't show up in the main menu.

I have added this
<a class="menuMain" href="http://www.madebymomsboutique.com" target="_blank">Made by Moms Boutique</a>

after
<!-- end module menu loop -->

Please, what am I missing?

I believe that you would must clean the cache and the folder "templates_c".

One other place to look, especially if you are using someone else's theme, is in your theme folder. If your theme has a directory called modules in it, then those files over-ride any other template that you have specified, whether default or another set in your database. This has been in place since 2.0.14, and clearing templates_c until you're blue in the face will do no good.

I guess I am confused as where some things get edited.
I am learning though.
