This is whats in my version.php

Is it saying that I have version 2.2.2? I guess thats the version of "2.0" I have? SO confused...

Yes, that is the version of XOOPS that you have.

There are two development branches for XOOPS. They are 2.0.x and 2.2.x. Within the 2.2.x branch, the stable versions are evenly numbered; whereas, beta, rc, etc. will be oddly numbered.

The latest is 2.2.5-rc2 found here.

I believe the majority are shying away from the 2.2.x branch and going with the 2.0.x branch, but that is just my opinion.

By the way, XOOPS 2.0.16 is in the 2.0.x development branch.

so is there any way to upgrade from 2.2.2 to 2.0.16?

Personally, I think you would be better off just deleting that site and its database and starting anew with 2.0.16.

Again--just my opinion.

So, final answer is that there is no possible way for me to upgrade to 2.0.16 from 2.2.2 safely what so ever without deleting the site and starting from scratch?

Here is a downgrade script to revert a XOOPS 2.2+ installation
to XOOPS 2.0.x.

Downgrade Script

You will have to judge for yourself whether it is worth the risk or time involved to revert your installation.

I agree with mortuk... wait for the next release.

I downgraded one of my sites and had one heck of a time doing it. Save yourself the headache. The next release will be available soon.
