TheCraftman,
Beautiful site. Very well done. I like it!

The music should be optional in my estimation.
I would have liked to read more about obama in your news item but the music caused me to move on. It was distracting to others on the phone and I hit it without a headphone.

Now, to the issue of google search engine.

Make an HTML copy of your website ... Heavy on text and no flash, with plenty of links within and external. Add the html version to the site. Provide a link from within the existing front page. Then wait!!

It takes time...

lots of it...

BS
EDIT: I went back and see I could turn off the music, but then when I went to read the rest of the article recieved the sorry no permission page. You lost the search engines then also...

Making an HTML copy of your homepage for Google to spider on will get you a duplicate content penalty. I don't recommend it.

Right click and save page as... complete as an IE6 option.
upload that page along with the folder it saved the files into. Name it indexbac.htm or something like that.

This can also be a backup in case of failure.

Make other static html pages that relate to your subject matter.

Googles order of priority is html first then htm then php.

in other words an index.html in the root will be read first if you have one and the index.htm or the index.php will be ignored. Next in line if you have one is the index.htm ... last is index.php

Google doesn't read images... only text.
little static text means little interest from google.

Make your links having words that relate to the concept of the site. Not click to my site. Google reads the meaning of the links and gives points.

http://hardhunting.com

Example. hard hunting disabled
those words when put into the google search criteria box.
Returns results... see
hard hunting disabled

Number one and two of
1,060,000 results (0.27 seconds)

I'm hardhunting... this site i did for my (son-in-law)
Put just the words hard hunting without the disabled attached in there and come up with my XOOPS explaination.
It is the kind of results I look for.

With just the words hard hunting in the search criteria
hard hunting

@Hi James, Come on now, its hard to argue with success...
This WORKS.

Please read about Duplicate Content Penalty. Making an .html representation of your page is a bad idea. It will hurt your search engine rankings.

If you want Google to spider your site better, make a sitemap and feed it to Google Sitemaps.

If you want to get more traffic to your site, there are a number of ways to do this. I've written a few short primers on how to do just that here, here and here

The only problem I find using this method is I would have to update the page manully about ten times a day. Because the latest news is always highlighted on homepage automatically.

Re: Any tips on getting visitors to a website?

Craftman,
The latest news is the duplicate content. It is available all over the net. Googles read it! already, thousands of times. What would make yours special?

The indexbac page you save... maybe once every couple of days hangs around long enough to get indexed and serves as a backup in case your database files or php programing becomes corrupt. No more dreaded white page while you try to figure out what went wrong. You don't even have to save it more than once a month. Save one, take out the old stuff and put links to new content. Edit it to your own liking. Be prepared to rename the file to index.html when your site goes down and you want an immediate recovery. Learn to work WITH it ...

As long as you have an index.php in your root directory (and don't name the other files index.) the other files will not be read by anyone other than giving google something static to chew on and you satisfaction that you are doing what is necessary to get the search engine attention. Make it work for you not against you.

Just duplicating the pages on a regular basis would be a pain and not buy you anything. Add text content worth keeping, Edit accordingly. 'Saving file as' is a way to get an html file fast that is in keeping with your site format. Filling it full of meaniful text (via edit) and good links is what will make the difference.

A BlueStocking opinion.
