User has to download 100+ items each time a page loads, why?

On our site, whenever a user logs in and goes through it, they have to download 100+ items each time a page refreshes or reloads. Is this normal or is there something I can do to stop this from happening, on some links, such as the forums (using the latest CBB) the number can go over 200 items downloading, which to me is insane each time a page loads or refreshes.

Use a theme that's less graphics-intensive?

It actually happens on this website as well. Refresh this page and have a look at your bottom status bar, you will see it downloading 100+ items each time as it refreshes.

I am not talking about the delay I am talking about the fact that you have to download 100+ items every time you refresh a page, one would think this would get cached but for some reason it is not. My question is why and can it be changed?

I just checked mine on this site and it did not give me excess images downloads.

Have you checked your browser settings?

CLICK Thumbnail
Resized Image

Tools | Internet Options | Settings | automatic

on the IE6 ... one of the options is every visit to the page.

Mine is currently set to automatic, so should not be updating anything unless it has changed. It only takes a few seconds to download the items, I just don't understand why it has to be that way.

I just checked this page before posting - it currently has 65 different images - most are the icons for the various options in the forums. When you add in the number of times an image is used on a page, you can get over 100 http requests.

If your browser is functioning properly, it will download the image on the first request, then load it from cache on subsequent requests.

If you would like to reduce the number of requests, you can switch to a "minimal" type theme that uses text links instead of graphics.
