When is the new release scheduled?

The module repository says that a new system is coming, but I don't see anything about it in News or the Home page. Is there a scheduled date for a new release? What is planned for the new release?

I am considering XOOPS for a new web site, and if there is a new release coming soon, I might choose to wait for that rather than install now and require an upgrade soon.

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but I didn't find it.

The note in the repository refers to a new repository which will be coming in the very near future.

As for Xoops, the latest release is 2.0.16 - and this would be the best version to use. Future versions will be upgradable from this.
