Hello all-

I just installed Xoops, as well as the standard news module. However, the design of the site I am making is such that the front page needs to display 3 or so news stories. Unfortunately, the best I've been able to do with the news module is move "Recent News" into the center block on the top page, but it's still quite different from what appears when I click the "News" link.

What I want is for the content that displays when you click "News" to display on the front page by default. I will have no need for a News link, as that is what the front page is supposed to offer. I will still need a publicly visible Archive link, as well as the Submit News link, but the latter only for a certain group. I'm confident I can figure out the link stuff on my own, but I have scoured every FAQ and guide I can find on this site for how to make News the default, to no avail.

It's possible the answer lies in using a different module entirely, but it seems like close to none of the modules in the repository have example screenshots or links.

Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Thanks for your help.

Wow, okay disregard this.

Naturally, I found the answer on a thread I had read at least three times, which pointed to a setting on a page I have scoured *many* times...but of course I didn't really see it until after I finally posted.

Thanks anyway.

Hi,
go to admin -> system admin -> preferences -> general settings and for "Module for your start page" select "News". Dont forget to submit the change.

Alternatively you can use xmspotlight module to display block like Latest XOOPS news here on xoops.org.

Or if I remember corectly, you can use news module own "top news" and play with block setings to display some news ...
