Hi All,

I have a question about how you guys handle user unsubscriptions and deletions.

When a user deletes their account or has their account deleted, their username in forum posts is changed to 'Unsubscribed', 'Deleted' or something like this. Over time when a number of people do this, it makes it very confusing for people who come along later to follow a thread conversation in a forum. They might see a conversation going on between 3 or 4 people, of whom 2 have unsubscribed and therefore have the username 'Unsubscribed.' It becomes very hard to tell who has said what.

Is there a method where you can preserve posts with the original usernames for the sake of thread readability even if users unsubscribe or have their accounts deleted? Has anyone developed a way of doing this?

Thanks for any advice,

a simple way: dont allow users deleting their own accounts. set it in:
system admin --> preferences --> User Info Settings

you can disable users. a tip here:

In this case though, other users don't know that the user has stopped using the forum, and may continue to send PMs, etc. which are never responded to. Is there any way to notify people trying to PM a person that their account is inactive or no longer in use?
