Upgrade from version 1.3.8

I am taking over administration of a site using version 1.3.8 and want to know if it is a good idea to try and upgrade it manually (I can't find any patches for that old of a version). Or should I just create a new installation and try to copy the data from the old version to the new one?


XOOPS Version: 1.3.8
PHP Version: 4.3.10
MySQL Version: 4.1.11
Web Server Software (Apache/IIS/Other): Apache 2

Which modules are you running on the site?

System Admin - Used
Headlines - Not used as far as i can tell
Who's Online - Used I think
Members List - Used
FAQ - Not used as far as I can tell
Partner Sites - Not used
Forum (newbb) - Not used
Downloads - Used once a long time ago
Contact Us - Used I think
News - Actively used
Polls - Not used in a long time

there is one listed that doesn't have a name and no info shows up about it.

plus a few other ones under not installed.

based on those, it would be far easier & quicker to install from XOOPS 2.0.16 from scratch rather than trying to update everything.

do a database backup beforehand for the news (providing you need to keep the existing data) as it maybe possible that it could be imported back to the current news module with some minor edits of the news tables in the backup..
