PHP as CGI binary - supported for XOOPS?

I'm considering using XOOPS and Gallery for a new edition of my Web site. My service provider (NetNation in Vancouver) says of their PHP support, "PHP is run as a CGI binary ... [We do] not run PHP as an Apache module on our shared server."

I don't understand the terminology well enough to know if this meets the XOOPS prerequisites or not. Any advice?

Does that mean they are emulating PHP?

Wild.

I'm not that conversant with the technology, but I don't believe it's emulation. To quote something that pops up on a number of sites: "Using PHP as a CGI binary is an option for setups that for some reason do not wish to integrate PHP as a module into server software (like Apache), or will use PHP with different kinds of CGI wrappers to create safe chroot and setuid environments for scripts. This setup usually involves installing executable PHP binary to the web server cgi-bin directory."

Its slower than running php as an apache module, but should still work.

Thanks for confirming that. I have no control over how the ISP sets it up, so I'll just have accept a sub-optimal implementation . I'll report back when I have completed an XOOPS install.

I've installed and configured XOOPS successfully in this environment, and the resultant Web site works.

Now off to add Gallery on top...
