XOOPS is installed but my website is not changing

I have installed XOOPS. I am a beginner with CMS. All the change of parameters I make (in preference, theme, module,)is not refleted in the website but insted seem to affect my admin XOOPS pages....
I am a bit lost now.
Anyone can help?

changes in preferences and css must be affected.
