Hi,

I need to upgrade my site from 2.0.5 to 2.0.16 (well, anything recent). Maybe I am just being stupid, but I can hardly find any information about how to upgrade.

So far as I can understand, the process for upgrading for a single version jump is to download the patch, copy over the contents of the html directory, and then run update in the modules admin. Experimenting on a test site leaves me with the following questions:

a) There don't seem to be any structural changes made to the database by the patches - is that correct? But data is inserted?

b) Is it necessary to run the update after every patch, and for every module? Could I run it once, after copying over all of the patches?

Thanks,

Mike

You will need to upgraded to 2.0.7 first, then use the 2.0.16 upgrade.

As Davidl2 said, first upgrade to 2.0.7 then you can upgrade to 2.0.16 by following the directions in the release notes.

Make sure you read them carefully.

For a visual overview of ugrading see the Xoops System Upgrade Flash Tutorial on my site.

I can't believe I didn't look there. I suppose I assumed that it would only contain what is in the upgrade folder in the download, which is not much.

I've also realized that I've been confused by the heading "Upgrading from any XOOPS ranging from 2.0.7 to 2.0.13.2". When you've been looking at the earlier upgrade patches, that reads like it is a patch to take the site from 2.0.7 to 2.0.13.2 (and why would you want to do that?).

Thank you all for setting me straight. 2.0.5 - 2.0.6 - 2.0.7 is not too much work.

Although there's a lot of improvements - the essential database structure is the same between 2.0.7 and 2.0.16 - so it makes upgrading a lot simpler
