I am utterly confused about this!

I used to use xfsection 1.10 but it is discontinued (and bad security-wise!); smartsection is recommended by the author instead. But smartsection only seems to have 'beta' and 'release candidate' versions available.

Which module should I use?

All I need is:

- categories

- permissions by category (so that anonymous users cannot access some categories)

- preferably, a list of the entire set of documents on the main page subdivided by category.

Thank you.

I am using SmartSection 2.1 (RC) on one of my 2.2.4 sites, and even though it's an RC, it works without any problems.

Thank you very much.

So, is that the general consensus?

EDIT: Does it have the features I mention above?

I like it, it's installed on several sites I use. It's probably one of the most versatile modules around. And yes, it has the features you listed
