I want to use my phpbb database for the users, since I already have members, I dont want them to have to sign up again and they can all be tied together, but Im not sure how to do this, Hope this made.

Heres another thought, as I am using this for my subdomains I guess I could install a forum that integrates into XOOPS in the main site and then have all the subdomains tie into the main site. Would this be easier??

Thanks for your help

if phpbb has ldap support I think you can connect both the XOOPS user database with the phpbb one, you would need the latest XOOPS version though = 2.0.14

2 Suggestions to make:

1 - Use the hacked Phpbb from www.bbpixel.com

This will allow you to link an existing phppp with Xoops, but the only issue with this - the module needs to be updated with each XOOPS release.. and security fixes are not so easy to make.

2 - Convert the data to CBB - XOOPS native forum.

Theres a convertor on www.xoopsforge.com (home site for CBB). Although it's slightly different from phpbb - it's a module written for Xoops, and therefore wont need hacking to get to run.

If you use the convertor, you'll be able to move users across to XOOPS and posts etc...

As ever, please make sure you backup everthing before use (data and site...!) and in this case, i'd recommend testing the conversion locally on something like XAMPP

Option 3 - as mentioned earlier - is to use LDAP which allows you to use information from a seperate database authenication database.

I don't know a lot about this, but I think Phpbb supports this now, so it's certainly another good approach..
