is there a way i can delete some of the modules from this block and keep others?

In the Administration of modules, if you set the weight of the module to "0" they will not appear in the Main Menu. For other menu needs use the multiMenu module.

These are the links on the news page, one for multimenu with 8 menus available the other for multimenu with 16 menus available.
