how can i let users have avatars on the site? please help.

Admin / System Module / Prefferences / User Info Settings / Allow custom avatar upload? = Yes

Recommend you set posts to 25-50 minimum.

Go to your site-preferences and choose User Info Settings [Edit].

in there you can set:

Allow custom avatar upload? to yes

Avatar image max width (pixel)?
and Avatar image max height (pixel)?to whatever you like

Avatar image max filesize (byte) to size you like
