What did the instructions state that need to be in the .htaccess file?
If you do not have an .htaccess file, they are quite easy to make. Simply open Notepad, or any plain text editor and insert the code that you are instructed to insert.
If using Notepad, simply click File >> Save As then give the filename ".htaccess" (no quotes), then select "All Files" from the "Save As Type", then click save.
Once you have created the file with the appropriate code, upload it to the root of your XOOPS installation.
For instance, if XOOPS is installed in the public_html folder of your hosting account, upload the .htaccess file there. The settings in the .htaccess file will propogate to all sub-folders of that directory.
Hope that helps.
