Why I get messages like this

Notice [PHP]: Only variables should be assigned by reference in file class/database/mysqldatabase.php line 239
Notice [PHP]: Only variables should be assigned by reference in file include/cp_functions.php line 57


on my site just below the site footer?

They are notices generated by Php debug, since they are just notices you can ignore them and go to admin side of your XOOPS site, preferences ==> General Setings and in that form locate "Debug mode" select off from the list on the right , press the "GO!" button on the bottom of the form and that's it
