A full description of the issue:

Installation problem. The wizard does not write the constants (see below). Can you explain why? I am totally new to XOOPS and cannot figure it out. Previous installer screens show no errors. As a result mainfile.php is only partly written, and the installation cannot be restarted (blank pages appear). I hope you can help. Thank you, M.

It's due to the installer not being fully compatible with PHP5. It will be fixed in the next release.
