Dear All

I am running 3 sites all using xoops. recently my host contacted me and told me that I was using too much resources and should check and remove the script which is doing this. They send me the foolowing info.

CPU Average: 23.96
Mem Average: 1.39
MySQL 1.1
Top Process %CPU 46.5 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 43.0 [php ]
Top Process %CPU 28.0 [php

These stats are the averages for all domains on the account. These averages are still to high.

what should I do? I dont know what to do.

Many thanks in advance,
cheers

Hello Prasad.

Are they seriously using MySQL 1.1?

In any case, before we can take a look at what causing the server overload, I need to know:

What XOOPS Versions are you using,
what Hosting company are you using
and how many Visitors do you have on a daily basis?

Have the stats always been that way?
If not, have you done any recent change on your system, like updating, installing modules, installing new themes?

André Thoresen

whoa wait a minute:

They told you that info about php now tell me what's the system you are on, what's the the memory, cpu, what else is on your site, how many users a day, etc.

There are many other things that need to be looked at, do you have any odd modules installed like chat, lookup, database intensive ones. You really have to check what script is so intensive on cpu and db. As I always thought XOOPS is not database friendly it uses way too many calls to database (but it never should be a problem to such extent).

As andycornell wrote in previous post we need more info.

sorry for the detailed reply.

The additional info is here.

Mysite: telugu-cards.com
Host: lunarpages
Operating system Linux
PHP version 4.4.1
MySQL version 4.0.25-standard

I have on an average 200 visitors and they mostly browse the forum (newbb 2). I have articles module and some others installed.

BTW, I forgot to change admin>pref>general>

Update module template .html files from themes/your theme/templates directory?

I kept it as YES even when site was running maybe this was the problem.

Please advise.

cheers

Yes, this will create extra load if set to "yes" (in fact it tells you that you should set to "no" once the site is live).

You should also consider caching modules and blocks. Especially heavily used and more intensive modules like the forums - but you may want to set forums (or modules that are updated frequently) to a lower refresh rate, otherwise visitors may experience a "lag" between posting and the replies showing up.
