ARTICLES: Additional properties for $arts variable in articles template?

I've set up the "Latest Articles" block to be published on the front page of my XOOPS installation. I'd like to publish the category for each article in that block, but I can't figure out how to assign the category id and category name to the $arts variable.

Is there a simple way to do this?
