Ok, I fixed my problem. I uninstalled the WordPress module :( and that brought the forums back. However, an odd side effect of doing that was that it corrupted my xoops_stories table in my XOOPS database. This made all my news stories disappear until I ran a "repair table" command on that table in our PHPmyAdmin installation on our host server.
