was looking good now not so sure

had no problems installing version 2.0.13.2, logged in, found no way to add content, installed news module, nothing shows up on the main page???

You have to make blocks visible - in admin -> blocks
You will also have to set up permissions - in admin -> groups and also in the news module.

Did you do that?
