I am terribly sorry, but I am not sure on how to update Xoops, I mean where to upload the html folder in the 2.2.4 update. All I need is the directory that is all, I do not want to destroy my site again because of wrong file uploads

Also, what forum would you guys recommend to use for XOOPS (looking for reliability more than all the fancy gadgets)

The 2.2.3a to 2.2.4 update has a subfolder named html which contains the following folders: class, include, install, kernel, language, modules, themes, and the following files: banners.php, header.php, imagemanager.php, lostpass.php, pda.php, search.php, user.php and xmlrpc.php.

My understanding is that these files should over write the files in the root of your XOOPS directory. Most of the files and folders will already exist and will be overwritten or added to.

After uploading/overwriting the files, delete the file named profilefields.tmp in the /cache folder

The directions don’t say when to do this, but I assume the next step is to go to your browser and goto:
http://www.*Insert your web site here*.com/install

This should execute the .php scripts required to conduct the install.

To be honest, I’m a XOOPS noob. This is what I’m trying but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’ll post again when I find the answer.

Hopefully a real expert will post a good answer for us.

Here is what I get when I run the install. I'm not sure, but it seems like it is missing certain files that it needs to perform the update. Notice that it concludes with the message: You can not access this XOOPS installer

Warning: main(./passwd.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /webroot/h/a/hartge/www/install/index.php on line 30

Warning: main(): Failed opening './passwd.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/php4:/usr/share/php') in /webroot/h/a/hartge/www/install/index.php on line 30

Re: Re: Re: Updating

To update, you do not run the installer. That folder is only included for upgrading the full install archive of 2.2.3.

Based on jdseymour's link to the WarPigW2.com tutorial, I was obviously doing it wrong... there is no running an install with an update, in fact, you delete the install directory before uploading the patch files.

Also, as the directions indicate, it is important to go into the administration of your XOOPS site and update the modules that were affected: system, pm, and profile (I had overlooked this in the original directions as well.)

I still have a question though... why does my XOOPS site still indicate "Powered by XOOPS 2.2.3 Final © 2001-2006 The XOOPS Project" after I've updated to 2.2.4?

You change that information in the admin > preferences > system > meta tags and footer.

It looks like the version I was reading was based on a footer that is set in preferences:

Preferences --> System --> Meta Tages and Footer

So it is up to us to manually change those words to indicate the proper version.

Thanks for your helpful posts!
