yeah i've tried that already, and i can change it to one of the three themes there. which arn't what i really want, i downloaded a theme from the theme library and uploaded the .tar file and it installed but i think maybe the file path is wrong? cause the theme didn't display the way it looked in the picture. on my site where would the themes folder usually be? and is there any way to point XOOPS to a different folder?

eg. is the themes folder located athttp://www.mysite/mysiteFTP/themes? or where? i dunno...

You have to extract the theme from the archive before you upload it.

Example:

You downloaded a compressed .tar archive from the library
Extract the theme using a utility like Filzip to your desktop. The folder structure should resemble the following:

theme_name/
..| images/
..| css/
..| blocks
..| theme.html

theme.html should only be one level deep into the theme's folder structure.

Now, upload the theme_name/ folder and all it's contents into the themes/ directory on your server.
Then, go into your control panel under Preferences and set the theme as active.

For future reference, common questions such as this are ansered in the FAQ.

Hope this helps.
