I have just spent the last 2 hours doing a fresh install of 2.2.3, which I thought was the LATEST version, only to realise that there's a known bug in 2.2.3 that leads to problems with blocks displaying (which I'm having), and that 2.2.3 is not the latest version.

I have been told that 2.2.3a fixes this problem.

Does anyone know how to upgrade to 2.2.3a - there appear to be no instructions in the archive.

------------------------------------------------------

Also, a little question

If the same file is put into a tar.gz archive and and a zip archive, then both extracted, will they both have the same MD5 hash?

I'm just wondering because I have the ZIP and the TAR.GZ version of the 2.2.3a archive, both of which have different file sizes, the difference being about 5kb between each one

Upgrading from 2.2.3 to 2.2.3a should only require:

1) Copy over the changed files. If you don't have an easy way to determine which files have changed, copy over all the files, except for mainfile.php and any files that you've customized/hacked.

2) Upgrade the system, profile and PM modules from the module admin page. I'm not sure this is necessary, but it won't hurt.

The difference in files sizes between the .zip and .tar.gz sounds like you're using your extraction program's option to convert line endings (DOS/Windows vs. Linux). If the files are extracted with no conversion, the results should be identical. The difference could also result from FTP-ing the extracted files in ASCII, as opposed to binary, mode.

Extra:
During the day, a number of people have reported problems when upgrading from XOOPS 2.0.x to 2.2.3 Final. This was caused by a faulty update routine which has now been fixed.I have updated the 2.0.13.1 to 2.2.3 Final patch and 2.2.3 Final full package as well as the 2.2 to 2.2.3 Final update patch - just to be on the safe side. They now have a "2.2.3a-Final" in the filename. The version has not been incremented inside the package as this had only to do with the update routines and not the actual core files.
Those that have already applied the 2.0.13.1 -> 2.2.3 Final patch can download a hotfix directly from SF.net Tar.gz | .zip
Upload and overwrite existing files and update the System module through the administration or if that is not possible, re-run xoopsupdate.php from the XOOPS root.

When done, remove xoopsupdate.php from the XOOPS root.
