I had the links showing up on the front page, then I tried to change it from category list to recent links and now it won't show up at all.

I have the most recent version of xoops

Well you could check that your block is set to visible

admin/blocks/list all blocks/

Or you could check to ensure that you have set the appropriatte permissions

admin/users/groups
