Set max characters/length of feed from backend.php?

I'm trying to find an existing setting to modify the length, or max characters, of backend.php. Assuming I'm not losing my mind and there is no such setting, has anyone tried this with any success? I quickly scanned the backend.php file but no solution was immediately obvious.

This is using XOOPS 2.2.3 too BTW. Thanks everyone!

Ok, I fixed it on the parser end. Oh well
