I'm an idiot -- when I used the find/chmod commands in your post, I was using my desktop desktop computer (which was already working), not my notebook. I tried on my notebook and it still doesn't work.

I had the same problem .. and found that I had to change /etc/php.ini so that "register_long_arrays" was set to "On" (and restart apache).
