This is to remove the left hand side... with careful thought it should apply to left and right sides...

By reading its first post, that does not appear very clear to me. it seems to use this template

i've registered an account on his website for testing.
I thought that he only must inactivate the 4 blocks on the left side for the newbb's module.

Theres 2 ways of doing this (one answered in another posting yesterday...)

1 - in your theme look to see if there are no left blocks, and remove the section for the left hand block space... making that side invisible

In the theme I use on my dev site, if i turn off all the blocks in the right column in admin, the column dissapears. I don't need to alter the theme at all. I confess I haven't tried turning off all the blocks in the left column, I just assumed the same would happen.
